The Grand Gallery is located in the planned Daihe Civic Park, which is an urban green landscape band unfolding along Daihe River, occupying ca. 112 hectares. The whole park has a basic tone of natural landscape with allocations of small facilities for resting. The starting point of the design was integration of the natural and the man-made.
The gallery is located on western side of the park, between the open-air theatre and camping place. The site elevation gradually lowers from the urban street to Daihe River bank. There is a large lawn here, along whose confines a pedestrian gallery with supporting functions like washrooms and kiosks was arranged. The design scheme defined the site center and its basic layout by regarding the lawn as a midpoint surrounded by gallery on the city side, so that the whole site opens up to waterfront. The gallery meanders through the park, being wide or narrow, splitting or united alternatively. WCs, kiosks and tea pavilions are hosted within the gallery. Through courtyards the gallery is connected with underground parking, which, taking full advantage of the terrain elevation, is hidden beneath the gallery. Slim columns support the gallery, building a delicate curve for a distant view, whereas the aluminum roof reflects the natural light and color around as well as pedestrian figures.
