This bird gallery is located in the planned Daihe Civic Park, which is an urban green landscape band unfolding along Daihe River, occupying ca. 112 hectares. The whole park has a basic tone of natural landscape with allocations of small facilities for resting. The starting point of the design was integration of the natural and the man-made.
The bird pavilion is located on a small island deeply embedded in ecodistrict in North of the park. On the island there is a little pond whose original ecological system provides a nice dwelling for birds. The gallery extends from woods towards waterfront. With a sudden twist, a wall is changed to a roof. Visitors coming from woods step down along the science wall and enter the bird pavilion upon water surface. Having an almost parallel view with the water surface, visitors could watch birds and enjoy the quietness here. With a wall engraved with sketches and information about birds and board series along the waterfront, this bird pavilion of 80 m² brings recreation, education and bird watching in a nutshell. The sculptural gallery is more like a piece of art embedded in the landscape. Elegantly curved surface symbolizes aerodynamics, which explains the secret of flying.
The red copper cladding reflects light, creating an interesting dialogue with its surrounding woods and water surface. The interaction is incredible yet unquestionable. The surface of the red copper will be oxidized over time, changing its appearance constantly, which proves the essence of human-nature interaction.
