Chaoyang Cultural and Creative Park

The project is located in Beibei District, Chongqing. It is an attempt to inject new cultural and creative industries into the old building through renovation and extension. The original building has various mixed functions, warehouses, farmers' markets, shops and hotels from the first to the fourth floor, and ordinary residential areas from the fifth to the ninth floor. To attract the young consumers from the neighboring Southwest University, the developer plans to renovate the podium part, make use the abundant local geothermal resources to operate hot springs on the ground floor, and arrange cultural and creative shops and joint offices on the second to fourth floors.

The terrain around the building drops as high as 8 meters from northwest to southeast. The whole building is located on a slope along the street, and the back of the building is made up of various high and low terraces. The design concept derives from this strong mountain city topography. Through the installation of ramps on the street facade and the steps on the indoor and outdoor terraces, the transformation scheme blurs the boundary between the floors and the boundary between the interior and exterior spaces. The mixed cultural and creative functions, the abundant pedestrian flows, and the interwoven outdoor, semi-outdoor and indoor spaces constitute a new dynamic urban meeting point in the old residential area.
