Hangar Ticinum Pavia

Urban Connection:The intention of the regional plan is to connect the city centre and the riverbank to the green space north of Lungo Ticino Sforza Street. This will enhance the urban public cultural attributes and waterfront vitality of the Palazzo delle Esposizioni, while making Idroscalo the community hub connecting the two areas.

Displaying Idroscalo:The proposal is to exhibit the secret sides of Idroscalo and to unveil the building in a new light, by preserving it, and displaying it from the city within a new frame and through a showcase.

The Frame (exterior) :Idroscalo community hub is designed to connect the city with a path from an entrance in its west façade. Looking from the city, a large frame displays the historic building, while from the building we see the city, the spire of the cathedral, and the mountains through this frame. Along this axis, the plan redefines a significant connection to the city and extends this sight corridor along Lungo Ticino Sforza. Also, the entrance platform strengthens the connection between Idroscale and the city.

The Showcase (interior) :Inside of Idroscalo we propose an inverted showcase: Instead of displaying its inside, we construct a multi-function space from glass for people to look out into the historic building. Its floor is movable to fulfil the functional requirements. The East facade is turned into glass with views onto the river. A mechanism allows the floor of the showcase to move along the historic ramp to the outside.
