YuJiaShan Relic Museum

The museum sits in the archaeological park. The diagonal ancient relics of circular moat and the orthogonal rectangular modern city grid form the triangular museum building site. The two criss-cross grids create a dramatic and thought-provoking conversation across time. The layout of the architecture seeks to enhance the 30 degree angle of intersection, allowing the presence of the ancient relic park and the modern urban backdrop to exist simultaneously in the viewpoints of the visitors as they journey through. Hence, accentuate the theme of misplaced time and space throughout the architecture.

The design of the museum takes inspiration from the ancient circular moat and mount, the main exhibition spaces are grouped into several units, surrounded by pathways and corridors / veranda to form a structurally clear defined and functionally efficient modern museum. The contrast between enclosed units of exhibition space and the adjointed semi-enclosed corridors / veranda call to attention the connection and transition between the museum and the relics park out there, whilst livening up the intersection and displaying the pleasant natural landscape.
