Highway Service Area
A Multifunctional, Stylish Transit Hub Embracing Large-Scale Modern Engineering Aesthetics
As traffic volume continues to rise, the South Service Area is set for expansion and redevelopment. The design transforms the formerly single-purpose highway rest stop into a vibrant complex integrating retail, leisure, and entertainment. Positioned at the gateway to Ningbo and adjacent to the Hangzhou Bay Bridge, the architecture adopts a bold, large-scale aesthetic inspired by modern engineering.
By elevating the ground floor, barrier-free parking is provided for disabled individuals and families with children, creating a floating visual effect for the building. Inside, expansive spaces are organized with clean circulation lines to accommodate diverse functions including rest areas, commercial zones, and entertainment. A sample pier from the bridge has been relocated into the building, serving both as a commemorative element and a repurposed climbing wall. Bright colors energize the atmosphere, while a clear wayfinding system ensures ease of use for all visitors.
